Town Manager Update

As you know, we are monitoring current events continuously regarding coronavirus, and remain committed to providing high-quality public service while balancing a need to do our part to help maintain public health.

Shelburne Town Offices will be closed to the public starting on until at least April 15th. Some staff will remain at work and on duty, doing our best to continue our service and work on your behalf.

While in person conversation is usually preferable, during this time, we ask your patience. Please reach out by telephone or email with questions or needs, and we will do our best to help. Many inquiries can be answered in this manner. Department telephone numbers are listed below; these numbers and emails are all listed on department pages.

We are also taking precautions in our various operations and emergency response protocols to help maintain everyone’s health. The Water Department will answer emergency calls as needed, but will not make appointments for meter replacement for the time being. The Wastewater Department remains on call for issues that may arise. Buildings and Grounds will continue their cleaning and maintenance activities. The Library building is closed, but books may be requested and made available by calling the number below. Police, Fire, and Rescue will continue 24/7/365 coverage to the best of our abilities. Dog License paperwork may be mailed in. Planning & Zoning have specific suggestions for their operations as summarized below. The School District has its own contingency plans in place for students, including meals.

Planning and Zoning (also see their webpage) will use remote staffing. If you wish to file an application for a permit without first consulting with staff, please do so electronicallyusing the forms available at http://www.shelburnevt.org/154/Planning-Zoning. Please email completed application forms as PDF attachments to baube@shelburnevt.org or dpierce@shelburnevt.org. We will confirm receipt and describe payment options. Applications may also be submitted by mail.

These are extraordinary times, and we are an extraordinary community. Let us all rise to the challenge, practice safe hygiene, take care of ourselves and those around us, look after our friends and neighbors. To borrow someone else’s suggestion, let’s consider this a time of “physical distancing”, but not necessarily social distancing. We can keep in touch and share of ourselves in other ways. If we are home for extended periods, consider teaching our children life skills during this time, if academic skills prove harder to come by.

Thank you all for your kindness, patience, and understanding as we work through this together. We will do our best to help keep you informed through various media, including the Town’s website and Front Porch Forum. As always, please feel free to reach out with any ideas, questions, or concerns.

Respectfully,
Lee Krohn, AICP
